Climate Literacy through Play and STEAM Education

This year, Dr. Megan Franke (PI) and Dr. Christine Lee (Co-PI) are collaborating with all eight primary level teachers to investigate how play and the arts can support climate literacy. In response to ongoing education initiates on the need for climate and environmental education, primary teachers are implementing a STEAM curriculum highlighting play and the arts to teach climate literacy and support students’ developing identities as environmental stewards. The research will take place in the Winter and Spring quarters and include documentation of students’ final art installation on the environment and video recordings of classroom activities that utilize art and play to teach environmental education. Participation in this study is voluntary and will remain confidential. Any questions about the project can be directed to Dr. Christine Lee at clee@labschool.ucla.edu or Dr. Megan Franke at mfranke@ucla.edu.
